About the Editor and Publisher

Nick Baptista
   Nick Baptista and his wife Kathy have been Calaveras County residents since 2001. They have two adult children, Ken and Laura. Ken is a middle school teacher in Escalon and Laura works for the California State Film Commission in Los Angeles.
   Kathy is a teacher at Jackson Junior High School.
   Nick’s entire career has been devoted to community journalism. His first newspaper job after graduating in 1977 from San Jose State University was as a reporter for the Elko (Nevada) Daily Free Press. He has been assistant managing editor of The Union in Grass Valley, managing editor of the Roseville Press-Tribune, editor of the Gridley Herald, general manager of the Calaveras Enterprise and publisher of the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza during his 38 years in the profession.
    While publisher of the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza, the newspaper won the Nevada Press Association’s prestigious General Excellence Award for large weeklies in 1996 and 2000.   Baptista is a member of the Rotary Club of West Calaveras and former two-term president of the Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce. In addition, he was an original cast member of the Calaveras Follies.

   The Valley Springs News is a continuation of the Daily and Action News serving West Calaveras since 1983.

   We serve the communities of Valley Springs, Burson, Campo Seco, Jenny Lind, Rancho Calaveras and Wallace, California.
   The Valley Springs News is published twice a week - each Wednesday and Friday.

   We're located at 1919 Vista Del Lago Drive, Suite 8 and our office hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
